No IPL matches would be held in the month of May in Maharashtra, which is under drought situation, ruled the Bombay High Court.
In the month of May, 13 matches are scheduled for the state, which includes the finale, which was going to be held on the 29th of May in Mumbai.
The judges said that we cannot ignore the situation of millions of poor people. He added that although banning matches wouldn’t solve this issue, the water used for cricket pitches should be shifted to those drought-hit zones, Latur being one of them, wherein a special train arrived yesterday, having desperately needed water.
Top BJP leader from Maharashtra, Shaina NC stated that she hopes this decision would help in raising collective consciousness which is needed for solving the crisis. The government has committed that 25 lakh liters water would be delivered in the next 7 days to areas hit by drought.
Before this verdict, various offers were made in the court for preventing the relocation of games from Mumbai, Nagpur an dPune, wherein the grand finale was going to be held on the 29th of May.
Different donations being made!
The Mumbai and Pune teams committed to donate Rs.5 crore to the relief fund of the Chief Minister for helping farmers in distress. Even Cricket associations said that 60 lakh liters of treated sewage water would be ensured free of cost. In several hearings, the court has flogged Devendra Fadnavis, the CM and organizers of BCCI as they prioritize money over people.
Don’t ban matches
Anurag Thakur, the secretary of BCCI asked if 5 star hotels were told to empty swimming pools. IPL teams King’s XI Punjab, Rising Pune Supergiants Squad and Mumbai Indias had urged that matches shouldn’t be banned as Rs.30 crore were invested by them already.
