Friendly matches are not important from the perspective of victory or defeat but still sportsmanship should be shown while playing a friendly match and players should try to give good performance.
However, if we look at the friendly T20 cricket match played between the Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav’s team and IAS Officers, we will get to understand that keeping your boss happy is more important than showing sportsmanship.
The match was played at the La Martiniere in Lucknow on Sunday, Akhilesh’s team scored 127 in 20 overs with the CM as the leading scorer with 65 runs (11 fours and 1 six). No other batsman of Akhilesh’s team was able to score more than 10 runs but CM blasted the IAS bowlers and the bowler who took Akhilesh’s wicket was giving expressions as he had committed a crime for which he was feeling guilty.
Many celebrities including the actress Mandira Bedi came to see the match and saw IAS Officers losing the match even when they needed to score just 3 runs in the last 2 overs for victory.
This is what Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan stated, “We tried really hard and fought well but the bowling improved in the last few overs. That’s why the win slipped from between our fingers.”
This was the fourth consecutive time IAS officers lost to the CM’s team and for the straight fourth time, Akhilesh became Man of the Match. The winning CM said, “I will obviously thank my team for the win but would also like to thank chief secretary and his team. I hope we keep getting their support like this in the future.”
