Domino’s, the fast food company, is all set to introduce robots for delivering pizzas in New Zealand. And with this, New Zealand will be the world’s first nation to use machine for delivering food items. This robot is waterproof, can keep food hot and drinks cold. What’s more, it can deliver up to 20 km distance from store.
The robot is named as Domino’s Robotic Unit; it runs on battery and is equipped with on-board sensors which help it in recognizing obstructions and avoiding them. 10 pizzas can be kept in its compartment and each customer needs to enter a code which will be provided to them for taking out their pizza.
New Zealand government has given its full support to the project; however, till now no date for starting the trial has been announced. Simon Bridges, the transport minister, said, “This is an exciting opportunity for New Zealand… over the last 12 months I’ve been actively and aggressively promoting New Zealand as a test bed for new transport technology trials.”
Simon Bridges further adds, “If we were to see more of this, I think it would really enhance New Zealanders’ lifestyles: we’d be ahead of the curve, we’d be getting hold of advanced technologies earlier.”
Some tests have been conducted by the company in Brisbane and they have accepted that their robot still needs some improvement before getting launched in the market.
