In an extremely strange and shocking incident, a minor girl who was abducted and forced into marriage by some men was eventually rescued by a pride of lions. Three lions chased off the kidnappers and protected the girl till the time Ethiopian cops reached the spot for help.

The 12-yr girl was missing for about a week and the kidnappers were constantly thrashing her till the lions saved her by chasing the abductors away. In the words of Sergeant Wondimu Wendaju inKefa province, “They stood guard [for half a day] until [police and family] found her and then they just left her like a gift.” He added, “If the lions had not come then it could have been much worse. Often these young girls are raped and severely beaten to force them to accept the marriage.”
A wildlife expert Stuart Williams is of the opinion that she could have been rescued for the reason that she was crying. According to him, “A young girl whimpering could be mistaken for the mewing sound from a lion cub, which in turn could explain why [the lions] didn’t eat her.” She is described as “shocked and terrified” by Sgt Wondimu who stated that out of 7 kidnappers, 4 have been caught while cops are still searching for the other 3.
