Take proper care before you address a woman as ‘honey’ or ‘baby’ as it might land you in prison. For educating youngsters about sexual harassment, special sensitization camps are being held in colleges and schools by the Uttarakhand State Commission For Women.
The chairperson of this commission, Sarojini Kaintyura stated that they want the boys to know how they must behave with girls and want girls to know when boys are crossing their limits.
The main aim is to empower the women as some aren’t aware of legal provisions. On the other hand, some choose ignoring cases of harassment.
As per the commission, these ‘harmless’ acts such as passing offensive remarks, calling woman names, cracking jokes and passing sexist comments would be included in harassment. From the month of April to December 2015, the commission received around 1,118 complaints out of which maximum cases were of harassment.
Government departments were asked to form women committees so that harassment of women can be checked at workplaces.
