This man is suing the hotel as the staff handed wrong keys to him. He was misunderstood as climbing into bed with a 9 year old and ultimately lost his high paid job.
A lawsuit is being filed by Daniel Hughes against Ritz-Carlton hotel in Missouri as he claims that the key was handed to him without his identification being checked. This led to him climbing into bed with a 9 year old.
Subsequently, he was taken to court based on allegations of child abuse. Although later he was acquitted of 1 count of statutory sodomy and 3 counts of child molestation, he states that he lost his job worth $480,000 a year. He further added that it was going to rise to over $1 million this year.
The lawsuit filed by him claimed that the hotel staff did not follow any security precautions that are mandatory in the hotel industry, especially in case of luxury hotels.
It is said that he was staying in the hotel for a business conference and had consumed around 13 drinks, due to which the hotel room numbers were confused. He tried inserting the wrong key in the wrong door.
Since it didn’t work, he went to the hotel reception where the staff gave him a key to that room wherein a 9 year old was sleeping. Not knowing anything, he got into bed. A lawsuit was filed against him for touching the girl inappropriately.
Later when prosecutors couldn’t prove that he touched the girl, he was cleared. However, the lawsuit filed by the parents of the girl was settled by Hughes for $50,000 and a new lawsuit was filed by him 2 weeks back against the hotel.
