Smriti Irani and Barkha Dutt, one is HRD minister and the other is a senior journalist, but what is common in both of them is their approach of never giving up in a fight.
Everything was going fine till Dutt tagged Irani in a tweet in which she was marketing her latest column “A Letter To PM Modi From ‘Anti-National Sickular Presstitute’ Barkha Dutt”.
Barkha was referring to a statement given by Smriti Irani in context of JNU controversy and the students of the university; however, Smriti totally denied giving any statement or quote in reference to JNU and this is how the battle started:
Minister @smritiirani says JNU insulted Mother India. But what of compassionate, gentler side of Mothers? My column: https://t.co/syfGgmwP99
— barkha dutt (@BDUTT) February 22, 2016
Here is what Smriti replied:
@BDUTT Madam find me 1 quote where I have named JNU else let it be known to the world once again u peddle lies.
— Smriti Z Irani (Modi Ka Parivar) (@smritiirani) February 22, 2016
Now, Barkha came up with all the newspaper reports regarding the issue:
@smritiirani ma'am eg: read this in @dna wasnt your ref to JNU students charged with sedition. All papers said so ? https://t.co/VJbvbOKd9m
— barkha dutt (@BDUTT) February 22, 2016
@smritiirani and here is Business standard saying the same on your comment on JNU issue https://t.co/tjmXsQCvMU
— barkha dutt (@BDUTT) February 22, 2016
One Twitter user was also quick to join and wanted to make his opinion count:

@naqshband @smritiirani that's what I read in all newspapers. Have posted link to DNA. Can attach other links too
— barkha dutt (@BDUTT) February 22, 2016
However, Smriti was in no mood to listen to anyone:
@BDUTT Apne jhooth ke liye doosro ka sahara mat lijiye. Maine aaj tak issue pe JNU ke naam se newspaper aur TV channel ko quote nahi diya.
— Smriti Z Irani (Modi Ka Parivar) (@smritiirani) February 23, 2016
Barkha showed her skills by trying to trap Smriti with this tweet:
@smritiirani so ma'am are you accusing almost the entire print media of "jhhooth"? And just curious whom were your comments directed at then
— barkha dutt (@BDUTT) February 23, 2016
Smriti defended herself by tweeting this:
@BDUTT u point out to certain journos and their reports to help ur cause but ur claim itself shows a systematic attempt to derail facts.
— Smriti Z Irani (Modi Ka Parivar) (@smritiirani) February 23, 2016
Barkha didn’t like it:
@smritiirani no idea why you needlessly personalise. However if I am a "liar" so are BS, DNA& 10 newspapers that wrote this. Agreed?
— barkha dutt (@BDUTT) February 23, 2016
Now it was the time for other Twitter users to join the war:
U n ur @BDUTT channel @NDTV is the one spreading lies and appeasing ur masters from opposition parties @smritiirani #FakeItLikeNDTV
— prabhu (@prabhatranjan_s) February 23, 2016
@BDUTT @smritiirani Not entire media, but some reporters associated with one channel are ofcourse JHHOOTTA and biased.

.@shilpitewari Lame logic. In a response to Q on JNU she said "bharat maata ka apman ..among other things" @BDUTT @brownbrumby @smritiirani
