Earlier when there was no internet, people were dependent on postman for letters of their loved ones and for other official communications also. However with the advent of internet and telecommunications, things have a changed a lot, still postman hold an important place in our lives, the level of importance may change from person to person.
A postman who is attached to Kodialbail post office has done something which has ashamed the whole postman community. Ashok (30) has not delivered almost 4000 letter for two years; he has been suspended by the department and will be fired if his crime is proven.
In October when the landlord of Ashok’s house in Surathkal decided to throw him out of his house as Ashok was not paying rent, when the lock was broken, he saw thousands of letters everywhere in the house.
The investigating officer said, “We found over 4,000 undelivered posts, including Aadhaar cards, personal letters, bank and job offer letters, magazines and greeting cards.”
He further added, “Though thousands of letters were not delivered, we haven’t received a single complaint so far.”
Two years ago, Ashok joined Mukka post office as Grameen Daka Sevak and he became postman after passing the departmental exam. In June, he joined Kodialbail as postman, the officer also told that, “We found letters of both Mukka and Kodialbail jurisdictions at Ashok’s house.”
Jagadish Pai, postal superintendent officer, Mangaluru division, said the postal inspector is investigating the case and the probe will be completed in five months.

Ashok wasn’t caught till now as he delivered speed posts, money orders and registered posts promptly. Mahesh O. the investigating officer told, “Since he delivered these letters, there was no complaint against him. Based on a preliminary report, we have suspended Ashok. It took nearly a month for us to deliver these letters.”
