When the whole world is talking about women liberation and women empowerment, a Sunni leader from Kerela, Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musalyar has given a controversial statement terming the concept of gender equality as “unislamic” and also said that women can never stand equal to men as “they are fit only to deliver children”.
The chief of All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama, Musalyar said on Saturday that women lack the mental strength and do not have the power needed to control the universe, “which lies in the hands of men”.
Musalyar was speaking in Kozhikode at a camp of Muslim Students Federation (MSF), when he said this, “Gender equality is something which is never going to be a reality. It is against Islam, humanity and was intellectually wrong. Women can never equal men. They are fit only to deliver children. Women cannot withstand crisis situations.”
He is of the opinion that there won’t be one lady cardiac surgeon among thousands of such surgeons.
This is not the first time that Islamic scholar has made some controversial statement, earlier also he stated that 50% reservation of seats for women is too high but he later disowned his statement after the criticism that he received. He also made a statement regarding the seat sharing by boys and girls in colleges, he said that is was, “part of a calculated move to destroy Islam and culture”.
76-yr Islamic scholar also dismissed all the claims and allegations made in support of sexual molestation cases happening at madrasas and challenged to bring evidence to prove their claims true. Just recently a controversy had begun when a woman journalist wrote on Facebook about the sexual molestation faced by boys and girls in madrasas.
