China is known for various strangest aspects followed in the country, and one such bizarre aspect is counterfeit items. After being successful in trading, the Chinese tradition have taken these counterfeit foods to an disturbing level. Have a look at these bizarre food scams that happen only in China.
1. Scams related to raw mutton is famous from china. More than 900 people were arrested for this scam. This was a big racket where meat from rat, mice and foxes were mixed with such ingredients that it looks like meat of goat. After such scams exposed, there were various videos released to teach people how to recognize the fake mutton.
2. Selling of adulterated honey scam included thousand of people in it. 90% of honey that came from China were fake and were completely made of water, sugar alum and coloring. However, Chinese newspapers have offered various instructions on how to differentiate between fake and real honey.
3. Now after meat and honey, authorities found that selling of contaminated water bottles have become too much common in the country. Mostly, all the water bottle sold in the Chinese market where filled with tap water or sometime poorly treated water would get into the bottles. More than 100 million bottles of this bacterial soup are sold annually.
4. Almost 50 factories in China were found selling rotten noddles in the market. Rice noodles are made from rotten, stale, and moldy grains which are usually used as animal feed. These are then mixed with cancer-causing additives such as sulfur dioxide to get the final product. Also, pigs were fed with these rotten noodles, which resulted in weak limbs and various other problems.
5. Tofu is usually known as soya curd and is preferred by people who opt vegan style of living. Chinese authorities have banned various factories producing tofu, because much of them were fake and artificial. Tofu was made using various chemical components which leads to cancer.
6. Duck blood is a delicacy from China, which is mostly extracted from slaughtering ducks. The blood is then thickened, which is then cut into pieces. Sellers have been known to mix deadly ingredients like formaldehyde with much cheaper pig or buffalo blood, then sell the concoction as duck blood. Also, there were various cases where pigs blood was used instead of duck.
7. China fake rice scam became the most popular scam in the country, where authorities sold plastic rice. It’s made from potatoes, sweet potatoes, and synthetic resin molded into the shape of real rice. The rice remained as hard as stone, even when it was over cooked.
8. Lean meat powder is an addictive drug that is given to animals like pig to get a leaner pork. It helps to burn the fats in the body, but at the same time it leads to sickness in the animals. Using the meat powder started somewhere around 1995’s but was banned in 2002. But even after this, Chinese authorities continued to use them, because using lean meat powder would give them leaner pork and leaner pork fetched more money.
