Yes, That is true.
Founded in 1990, Umoja (means unity in Swahili) is a village in Kenya, where men are not allowed to live. Located near Samburu County, this is a all-female matriarch village.
The village was a result of against the never ending practices against women like forced marriages, child marriage, female genital mutilation, rape and violence against women.
Rebecca Lolosoli, among with some other women founded this village. It was initially home to women who were survivors of violence and practices against women and were now homeless.

This village has its own primary school and every one has the zeal to learn to read, write and get educated. As occupation, women are engaged in traditional craft which they sell them to the tourists visiting the nearby Samburu Reserve. They also promote and educate other people in nearby villages about women rights, preventing violence against women and equality.
I salute them!
