Obama once embarrassed India saying “Mahatma Gandhi would have been shocked at the acts of intolerance in the country famed for its diversity.”
However, India asks the same question to Obama when a Sikh-American old man had been viciously injured as well as called “Bin Laden” & “terrorist”. This evident hate crime incident took place in Chicago only days prior to commemorating September 11 attacks anniversary.
It was on Tuesday that Inderjit Singh Mukker had been attacked when an attacker stopped his car and yelled racial comments, “Terrorist, go back to your country, Bin Laden!”
Here it’s worth mentioning that Inderjit is a US resident and had been going to a grocery shop where the elderly man got cut off again and again.
The man pulled over to side so that the driver might pass; however, he instead approached the old man’s car in a hostile way. Thereafter, the attacker punched him over and over again on face till the moment he lost consciousness, smeared in blood with a fractured cheekbone.
Then Mukker had been taken to a hospital and got 6 stitches together with medication of bruise, swelling & lacerations. The suspect is detained, however.
In the words of Inderjit, “No American should be afraid to practice their faith in our country.”
He further added, “I’m thankful for the authorities’ swift response to apprehend the individual but without this being fully investigated as a hate crime, we risk ignoring the horrific pattern of intolerance, abuse and violence that Sikhs and other minority communities in this country continue to face.”
