Indians are adept in making things work how impossible it may look but Indians will always find a way to do it, or in simple terms, they master the art of Jugaad.
Dashrath Patel from Gandhinagar, Gujarat is an Air Conditioner mechanic by profession but this person has designed a sofa which has an inbuilt AC in it, which will not only provide cooling in a better way as it will be kept on the ground but it also need less power in comparison to normal ACs.
Dashrath was supported in his endeavor by National Institute of Design (NID) and by Ankit Vyas, NID alumnus.
Since 2010, NID and Ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises runs a scheme in partnership known as “design clinic scheme” and the head of the project is Kumarpal Parmar, who is an executive at NID.

When the first sofa was made it was around 175 kg in weight which was too heavy but with the help of Ankit, Dashrath reduced the weight of his sofa, now the weight of sofa is 35kg.
Ankit is an owner of design studio, he tells about the AC sofa, “It works like a split AC with a unit inside the sofa linked by pipe to an outer unit. The air-flow will come out from the hand-rest part of the sofa. It will simply work like a house AC. You can increase or decrease the temperature with a remote control, and it can also run on fan-mode.”
Price – Rs1-1.25 Lakhs
Dashrath says that the target segment for AC Sofa will be hotels, hotels with terraces, commercial complexes, etc, and the starting price will be between Rs1-1.25 Lakhs.
