Decent behavior in public places, including metro stations, is essential for maintaining a respectful and comfortable environment for all. These spaces are shared by people of all ages, backgrounds and sensitivities. Displaying appropriate conduct ensures that everyone feels safe and valued, fostering a sense of community and mutual respect. Public indecency can lead to discomfort, embarrassment and even fear, particularly among vulnerable groups like children and the elderly. Upholding civility in such spaces reflects personal responsibility and social awareness. It also sets a positive example for others, reinforcing societal norms that promote harmony and dignity in shared environments.
However, a recent incident at a metro station in Bengaluru has stirred a wave of online discussion about the boundaries of acceptable behavior in public spaces. The event, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, involves a young couple engaging in intimate behavior while waiting for a train. Their actions, occurring in the presence of several other passengers including senior citizens, have prompted both public outrage and call for greater accountability.
The video, reportedly recorded at Madavara metro station, was shared on platform X by an account named ‘Karnataka Portfolio’. The accompanying post questioned whether Bengaluru was adopting what it described as a controversial culture seen previously in Delhi Metro, urging a conversation about societal norms and decency.
The post expressed deep concern over the public conduct displayed in the video, criticising what it referred to as a disregard for shared spaces. It highlighted that metros and similar locations are frequented by diverse groups — families, children and elderly citizens — and thus demand a level of respect and decorum from everyone. The sentiment underscored that such places should not be treated as private zones for personal expression of affection, noting a perceived erosion of social boundaries.
A long post which was made with the video read, “Is Bengaluru Heading Towards Delhi metro Culture???
Disturbing Public Behavior at Namma Metro Station Raises Questions About Decency in Bengaluru
It is extremely disappointing and concerning to witness the kind of behavior that some individuals are now displaying in public spaces. A recent incident at the Namma Metro station near Madavara has left many shocked and uncomfortable. A young man was seen indulging in highly inappropriate behavior with his girlfriend, openly placing his hands inside his clothes in a vulgar manner while standing with her. Such actions, especially in a public place like a metro station, are completely unacceptable.
Public spaces are meant for everyone children, women, families, elders – and to see people treat them as private zones for intimate behavior is both disrespectful and disgraceful. It reflects a growing lack of shame and decency among certain individuals who seem to have no regard for public conduct or the people around them.
While relationships are a personal matter, there is a clear line between affection and public indecency – and that line should never be crossed in a space meant for public transit. What’s even more disappointing is the attitude of some young women who tolerate or even encourage such behavior from their partners, as if there’s nothing wrong in it. This is not boldness or freedom – this is carelessness, disrespect, and a lack of social awareness.
Bengaluru has always been a city known for its progressive yet respectful culture. Unfortunately, with incidents like these becoming more frequent, one can’t help but wonder what kind of values are being brought into our city, and why basic standards of public behavior are being ignored.
Authorities must act strictly against such behavior and set examples so that public spaces remain safe, clean, and respectful for everyone.”

Online responses reflected a mix of perspectives. Some users supported the criticism, emphasising the importance of maintaining a respectful environment in communal settings. They argued that public affection should remain within socially acceptable limits to ensure comfort and inclusivity for all.
However, others raised ethical concerns about the method of criticism itself, especially the decision to upload the video without concealing the identities of those involved. Some called for more constructive approaches, suggesting that guidance and education about public decency would be more effective than public shaming. According to these voices, preserving the dignity of individuals, even when correcting behavior, is crucial to maintaining a respectful discourse.
The incident has become a focal point for broader conversations about evolving social norms, individual freedoms and the responsibilities of both citizens and digital communities in shaping public behavior.
