There is no denying the fact that medical charges taken in private hospitals are quite exorbitant and whoever will spend such a big amount will expect to get proper treatment from doctors and medical staff but here is an incident in which a person was left dejected even after paying Rs. 2,300 as consultation fees.
A recent visit to Apollo Hospital in Sarita Vihar left a man deeply disappointed after an experience he described as highly unsatisfactory. Gajender Yadav had scheduled an appointment well in advance, expecting to consult a senior doctor. However, upon arrival, he was instead examined by the doctor’s assistant. The senior doctor briefly engaged in the discussion, provided instructions to the assistant, and then departed, leaving Gajender Yadav feeling ignored and frustrated.
Sharing his experience on social media, Gajender Yadav’s post quickly gained widespread attention, amassing over 1.6 million views.
Gajender Yadav took to X and wrote, “Paid Rs 2300 consultation fees at @HospitalsApollo Sarita Vihar for consultation with Senior Doctor. Assistant came and discussed the case for 10-15 mins. Senior Doctor came later. Discussed things with his Assistant. Meanwhile his Assistant suggested what to do or what no…..where is the expertise/suggestions/experience of Senior Doctor?? What kind of behavior is this @HospitalsApollo ??
Who will inform us that consultation fee is charged for consultation with Assistant and not the Senior Doctor. We took prior appointment for consultation with Senior Doctor. Absolutely disgusting.”

As the discussion unfolded online, opinions emerged both supporting and justifying the situation. Gajender Yadav responded with, “I had no idea why few people are Justifying this act. This is so simple. I paid for diagnosis by Senior Doctor. For learning/experimenting or whatever u call. Run a charity OPD. This was a PRIVATE OPD FOR WHICH APPOINTMENT WAS TAKEN 1 WEEK PRIOR. We should be informed that diagnosis will be done by assistant and not SENIOR DOCTOR.I was expecting some inputs/help/suggestions for Senior Doctor to recover faster. A direct conversation with Senior Doctor. What is this rerouting conversation.”

Expressing his concerns, Gajender Yadav proposed that hospitals should establish a separate outpatient department for assistants undergoing training rather than involving them in private consultations without prior notice. He emphasised the importance of transparency, stating that patients should be informed beforehand if their diagnosis will be handled by an assistant rather than the senior doctor they had booked an appointment with.
Reflecting on his visit, Gajender Yadav expressed his disappointment at not receiving the direct interaction and expert guidance he had anticipated. Instead, he found himself in a situation where his concerns were relayed through an intermediary rather than being addressed by the senior doctor himself.
