Zahid Ahmad Qureshi who belongs to Kashmir is just 21 years old but with his courage and determination he has proved that nothing is impossible. He lost his father in a militant attack when he was just 2 months old, his mother got remarried and she left him with his grandparents, who were themselves not in good condition. Zahid’s grandfather Azizullah Qureshi is 96 years old and used to run a tea stall in Kupwara. Despite their own poverty, his grandparents did not left any stone unturned and supported him to the extreme, today Zahid had made his grandparents proud by securing 89th rank in IIT.
But the disappointing fact is that Zahid is having problem in arranging money to get admission in the India’s Esteemed Engineering Institute. Many calls came to congratulate him but no one offered to help monetarily. The banks have also denied any loan without admission letter. As in the case of Saroj Brothers, help came from all sides, Zahid is still waiting for someone to help.
With a heavy heart, Zahid said to DNA, “We don’t have even Rs 10,000 to pay my counseling fee. If not paid, my admission will be cancelled. I thought of selling my cell phone, but it is fetching only Rs 5,000.”
For someone who doesn’t even have money to pay for counseling fees, the dream of becoming an IITian seems to be a distant one, Zahid is now also weighing his option of joining local degree college for pursuing graduation.
Let us hope that like Saroj Brothers, this boy from Kashmir also gets the support and help needed to fulfill his dream. Ministry of Human Resource and Development, are you listening?
I’m sure the story of Zahid must have touched you. Can you suggest what this guy should do to arrange money or by what way can he get admission? Share your suggestions and ideas in the comments section below!
