Bollywood and business may often seem worlds apart but the union of actress Asin and Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma is a perfect example of how these realms intertwine. Their love story, orchestrated by none other than Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, is a tale of destiny, values and perfect matchmaking.
Rahul Sharma recently recounted the origins of their relationship during an appearance on a podcast. Their first meeting took place during the 2012 India vs. Pakistan cricket match at Asia Cup in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Akshay Kumar, who co-starred with Asin in multiple films, played a pivotal role in bringing the two together. Convinced of their compatibility, Akshay facilitated their connection as he felt that they both share similar values and backgrounds. Rahul recalled in the podcast, “We were going for an India vs Pakistan match. Akshay’s movie was coming up, Housefull (2), and she was acting in that movie. And then Akshay said, ‘There’s a movie coming. We want to promote the movie.’ Since Micromax was the sponsor of Asia Cup, it was happening in Dhaka, Bangladesh. So if somebody asks me where you met your wife, I say the most romantic place on Earth – Dhaka (laughs).”
He further added, “Then Akshay said she’s a girl who’s very, very simple, down-to-earth, similar to you. She just comes, does her work, and goes back, very professional. Her mother is a doctor, father is into services, so fantastic. Then he gave her number to me and my number to her. He just felt there’s so much common in us. We come from the same values and backgrounds.”

In the year 2016, Akshay Kumar shared in an interview that during the shooting of “Housefull 2”, they were playing hide and seek and he made both of them hide together in one cupboard and this is how everything started.
Rahul Sharma expressed heartfelt gratitude for Akshay’s role, calling it “his greatest contribution” to his life.
Although their connection did not blossom instantly, the foundation laid by Akshay eventually led to a deep bond. The couple tied the knot in a fairytale wedding in January 2016 and Asin retired from acting to focus on her personal life.
Their family grew with the birth of their daughter Arin on October 24, 2017, completing their picture-perfect journey.
Asin had worked in many southern movies and her Bollywood debut took place in 2008 with Aamir Khan starrer “Ghajini”. She worked in some other Hindi movies such as “Ready”, “London Dreams”, “Housefull 2”, “Bol Bachchan” and “Khiladi 786”. Her final movie was “All Is Well” (2015) after which she quit acting.
Asin and Rahul Sharma’s love story is a testament to how destiny, paired with a bit of sly matchmaking, can bring two worlds together. Today, the couple enjoys a blissful life, often reflecting on the unique and cinematic origins of their union.
