Royal Challengers Bangalore has made it to the playoffs and the team’s journey was certainly inspirational as it lived up to the phrase, “Never Give Up”.
There was a time when RCB was written-off by many as it was at the bottom of the points table after losing 7 matches out of the first 8 matches but it showed immense determination and did something which was unthinkable. RCB won its next six matches and now it will be clashing against RR in the eliminator which will be played tomorrow at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Whenever a discussion will take place regarding RCB’s comeback , people will talk about super performances by Virat Kohli, useful contributions by Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar, they will remember Dinesh Karthik for finishing in style , Mohammed Siraj for superb bowling, etc. but one name which may not come up in this discussion is of Swapnil Singh.
Swapnil Singh played an important role in RCB’s win against Sunrisers Hyderabad as he took wickets of Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen and then in the next four matches, he was given the responsibility of bowling in the powerplays and if we talk about the match against CSK, he gave only 13 runs in 2 overs and also took the catch of MS Dhoni.
Swapnil Singh’s journey has been quite emotional as he made his debut for Baroda in 2006 and in 2008, he was bought by Mumbai Indians and then he was bought by the Punjab team but he had to wait for 14 years to make his debut and that too for a team which he had joined as a net bowler.
He was a net bowler for Lucknow Super Giants and the head coach Andy Flower was quite impressed with him. Swapnil Singh had a word with him and he asked for a chance to play in the match as that may have been his last chance.
Here is a video in which you can hear Swapnil Singh telling his story and it will certainly leave you teary-eyed. The video was posted by RCB with the caption, “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘄𝗮𝗽𝗻𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 is special for a number of reasons! Keep those tissues handy. If you’re not his fan already, you’ll end up becoming one.”

He is a handy spin option for RCB and we are quite sure that he will perform well in the future as well. We wish him good luck for his future endeavours!
