Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will lose his 75% of the match fees of First One Day International of on-going India-Bangladesh ODI series, due to an incident which involves him and Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahaman. Level 2 offences have been charged against MSD under the ICC Code of Conduct, and a joint decision has been taken by the Indian Team Management that they will contest the charge as nothing has been done intentionally by the Indian Captain.
In 25th over of the match, it felt as if the Indian Captain intentionally pushed Mustafizur while running between the wickets. Mustafizur who was making his debut in the ODI, went off the field for treatment but when he returned he dismissed 5 Indian batsmen. Both the players were summoned by match referee Andy Pycroft so that he can hear both the sides, however Bangladeshi team is not going to make a complaint against Dhoni.
Andy also met both the field umpires Rod Tucker and Enamul Haque Moni before he met the players; Dhoni was accompanied by Team Director Ravi Shastri and Indian Team Manager Biswarup Dey while Mustafizur went with Bangladeshi Team Manager Khaled Mahmud Sujon.
Mustafizur had earlier also came into the way of Rohit Sharma when he was running between the wickets, hence he is also going to lose his 50% match fees.
At the press conference in the night after the match, MS Dhoni expressed his views on the incident “The bowler (Mustafizur) thought I would move away while I thought he would. But as none of us did, we collided. I think this can happen in any match. It’s nothing big. I spoke to him later.”
Mashrafe Mortaza, the Bangladeshi ODI Captain also did not want to take the issue further as he put his point forward, “Things like this can happen on the field during a match. We all shake hands at the end of the day and such situations can be discussed with the on-field umpires. It’s nothing serious.”
However, Mustafizur told Prathom Aalo, a Bengali Daily, “I made a mistake coming in the way”.
Dhoni was penalized for not showing respect to Umpire’s decision and making improper remarks, just recently in IPL 2015 in which he was the Captain of Chennai Super Kings. He lost 10% of his match fees due to that incident.
Bangladesh has taken a lead in Three ODI series by defeating India in the first ODI by 79 runs.
