The Indian test team will be playing its second consecutive World Test Championship final on 7 June 2023 against Australia at The Oval, London, and it will definitely not like to repeat the result of the last time. In the inaugural edition of the WTC, India lost the finals to the New Zealand side but this time, the Kiwis helped the Indian squad in ensuring its berth in the finals by defeating Sri Lanka in the first test match of the 2-match series.
The Australian team fixed its seat in the WTC final after defeating India in the third test match and in the fourth and the final test match, the Aussies once again batted brilliantly but the former Aussie skipper Aaron Finch feels that Rohit Sharma-led Indian team has a better chance of winning the WTC final.
Aaron Finch is currently leading World Giants in the Legends League Cricket which is being played in Doha. In an interview, he states that he is not sure about the return of Hardik Pandya in the test cricket but the Indian pace battery that consists of bowlers like Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, etc. is quite strong. Moreover, he has also referred to Mohd. Siraj as one of the top pacers of the world in the present scenario. Talking further, Aaron Finch says that the Indian team defeated England last time in its own backyard and it becomes very strong when it adds one or two spinners in the team.
When Aaron is asked about the changes that the Aussies can make in their squad for the WTC final excluding the return of Pat Cummins, he jokes that one thing is for sure that they won’t play three spinners.
Aaron Finch also praised the Australian side for its performance in the Indore test match which it won and he also felt that the Aussies could have won the series if they had won the test match in Delhi. In the Delhi test match, the biggest reason of the Australians getting defeated was losing their majority wickets in one hour which Aaron called one hour of madness.
David Warner, the Australian cricketer didn’t have a good outing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and many demanded that the 36 years old player should retire now but Aaron Finch has supported the left-hander and said that he is the best batter of the country in all the three formats. As per Aaron Finch, David Warner has scored 200 in the Boxing day and this shows that he has the much needed drive and the desire to be there in the Aussie team. However he adds that though Ashes and Stuart Broad will be a great challenge for Warner yet the good thing is that he is fighting hard.
We hope that what Aaron Finch has said about the WTC finals come true and the Indian team lifts the trophy.
