“Comparatively” is the keyword here.

According to analysts, BJP failed yesterday owing to anti incumbency. For those of you who don’t know, anti incumbency may be defined as a term in politics, where the citizens (the aam janta) begin to feel a level of dissatisfaction and discontent with the party in power.

In other words, BJP’s strategies during its reign had been massive disasters, and it had failed to acquire the support of the majorities. BJP gradually lost its popularity, owing to a number of factors which are well known to everyone.

However, it must also be argued that any party which has been in power for a certain period of time is likely to face a level of anti incumbency. Yet, did Congress successfully capitalize on the anti incumbency factor of BJP?

Except Chhattisgarh, Congress failed to make the most of the anti incumbency that BJP had been battling all this while. In other words, BJP’s performance as an incumbent party was far better as compared to that of Congress being the opposition.

Although the numbers tell a different story, it must be admitted that the Congress may have fared better if they had successfully been able to capitalize on the weakness of the opposing party (BJP) facing anti incumbency.
