Filmmaking is a very difficult task without a doubt and all the hard work of makers turn out to be fruitful only if a movie earns good on the box office and is acclaimed by viewers and critics alike. Well, that’s a quite long process but deciding an appropriate title for a flick is itself not easy. The title has to be appealing and unique as it’s among the first few things that people get to know about a movie.
But do you know that there have been several films which had entirely different titles before release? Here are 10 of them:
1. Tamasha – Window Seat
As per the director Imtiaz Ali, Window Seat was just the working title of the movie so it was bound to be changed.
2. Love Aaj Kal – Elastic
In this case also, the reason is same and Elastic was just the working title of the film. But isn’t Elastic too weird for working title also?
3. Madras Cafe – Jaffna
John Abraham starrer Madras Cafe was based on the murder of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and naming it Jaffna didn’t go well with Sri Lanka as it is the name of its capital city of Northern province.
4. Veer-Zaara – Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum
Shah Rukh Khan starrer Veer-Zaara was earlier titled as Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum but later on it was decided to name the title on the leading characters of the flick.
5. Total Siyapaa – Aman Ki Asha
Objections were raised by the two leading media houses of India and Pakistan when the movie was titled as Aman Ki Asha as they were running a campaign by the same name, eventually the name was changed to Total Siyapaa.
6. Jab We Met – Punjab Express, Ishq Via Bhatinda, Train
Imtiaz Ali chose Train as the working title of the movie but as it was not much appealing, he took an audience poll for the final title and Jab We Met got the highest number of votes.
7. Bullett Raja – Jai Raam Ji Ki
The movie was titled as Jai Raam Ji Ki but as per the suggestion from Saif Ali Khan, it was changed to Bullett Raja in order to give feeling of a mafia film.
8. Jai Ho – Mental
The flick was named as Mental but later on, it was changed to Jai Ho and it felt more appropriate as the movie got released on the Republic Day.
9. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara – Running With The Bulls
Zoya Akhtar’s movie was liked by viewers a lot, especially the youngsters. it was first named as Running With The Bulls but it was changed to Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara to give more personal touch. What’s more, it is also the title of a song from Farhan’s movie Rock On.
10. My Name Is Khan – Khan
Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer was titled as Khan but it is being said that Karan Johar changed it to My Name is Khan to make it more impactful and make a connection with the audience.
