Sabyasachi is one of the most popular fashion designers of the present times and be it Deepika’s ethnic outfits or Anushka’s wedding dresses, he has mesmerised us all with his amazing work. In fact when Deepika was asked as to which designer’s dress she would wear in her wedding, she named Sabyasachi. People are going gaga over his sense of fashion and style and he has always lived up to our expectations.
The ace designer is once again in news but this time, it’s for all wrong reasons. On Saturday, he slammed Indian women, especially younger generation, who don’t know how to drape a saree and prefer western clothes.
Here’s what he said at Harvard India Conference,
“I think, if you tell me that you do not know how to wear a saree, I would say shame on you. It’s a part of your culture, (you) need stand up for it.”
He made this remark while expressing his views over difficulties women encounter while wearing a saree. As per him, saree is the world’s most amazing outfit and folks from all corners of the planet love it.
Even though audience applauded him for this comment, Twitter didn’t agree with the designer and users gave it back to him in the most epic way. Check out some selected tweets:
Culinary culture:
Shame on Sabyasachi if he doesn't know how to make a samosa or dhokla. It's a part of his culinary culture. https://t.co/0jB0JUzgyQ

He should apologise:
This is insult to all Indian Women. Sabyasachi should apologise to Indian women. A country where Guthhi, Nani and Palak know how to wear a saree, how did he assume that woman wouldn't know.

Bang on!
Shame on #Sabyasachi for not giving the speech in Sanskrit. It's a part of your culture, you need to stand up for it.

There’s more to women than wearing sarees:
Not his prerogative to pronounce judgement on women who don’t know how to wear sarees, shocked that such an obtuse comment is not taken as a sexist one ,there is more to women than wearing sarees .

Shame on you:
“I think, if you tell me that you do not know how to wear a saree, I would say shame on you. It's a part of your culture, (you) need stand up for it.” You know what else is part of our culture? Patriarchy. Shame on you for perpetuating it. https://t.co/C0j2d8ss48
