Finally Padmaavat hit the screens yesterday & audience flocked the theaters to watch the most awaited period drama.
We had expected jam-packed theaters but since it was a working day, the occupancy was 60-65 percent. The release of Padmaavat was delayed since a long time but now that it has finally released, makers certainly want good numbers.

There were protests nationwide and so, the film failed to release in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Goa; this has hampered the screen count, which in turn has had a negative impact on the collections. Initially, the film had got around 5000 screens but since it didn’t release in 4-5 states, the screen count went down to 3500. Let us see what trade expert has said about the day 1 collections.
Despite 35% of the screens not showing around the country, @deepikapadukone 's #Padmaavat 's early estimates are around ₹ 18 Cr nett for Day 1 in #India..

Yes, the movie has earned 18 crores on the first day which is actually a good thing. It was a working day but still it has managed to earn 18 crores (As per early estimates), however, when we compare the collections to the budget, it is indeed disappointing.
Padmaavat is a very expensive film & around 200 crores were spent on it. With 18 crores on the opening day, the film might not be able to cover its costs.
The current situations have put Padmaavat in a risky situation. In order to be a hit, the film will have to collect at least 200 crores; however, considering the protests and attacks, we feel that the movie might not be able to recover costs. On the other hand, it will get the benefit of long weekend i.e. 26th January holiday, Saturday and Sunday. So, the results can be improved as well.
If we compare the opening day collections of Padmaavat to latest releases, it is quite low. Tiger Zinda Hai had earned 33 crores while Golmaal Again had got 31 crores despite fewer screens.
Do you think Padmaavat’s fate will change?
