In Indian society, mother-in-laws don’t generally have a very positive image when it comes to supporting daughter-in-laws. However, what recently happened in Mumbai will make you change your thinking.
It might come as a great shock to most of us that a lady of 45 throttled her own son to death for saving daughter-in-law from domestic violence, as he used to beat her a lot.
The strange incident took place in the evening of Tuesday at Mankhurd and the accused was taken into custody the next day.
Mankhurd cops revealed that the victim, 25-yr Nadeem Naim, used to live in Ambedkar chawl with wife, mother and the families of two elder brothers. He got wed to a lady of Allahabad a couple of years ago and she didn’t know that Nadeem was addicted to drugs. He used to beat her in the intoxicated condition and this all became unbearable for her. After five months, she left the house of her in-laws but Anwari Idrisi, her mother-in-law, persuaded her that her son would neither consume drugs nor thrash her. Finally, she came back to her in-laws’ house.
As per Chandrakant Landge, Mankhurd police station’s officer,
“On Tuesday night, Nadeem came home in an inebriated state when the entire family was present. Anwari realized that Nadeem would become violent and ordered her sons and daughters-in-law to sleep in the neighbor’s house. Nadeem could not tolerate this and after everyone had left, he began beating his mother. She took the beating.”
After Nadeem got exhausted, he was pushed towards a ladder by his mother who then throttled him by tying dupatta around his neck which resulted in his death. After his demise, she sat beside Nadeem’s body and cried the whole night.
It was at 5:45AM that the victim’s wife came back and found Anwari weeping. She confessed to have murdered her son for saving daughter-in-law from his thrashing and torture. Cops detained her under IPC Section 302 on the charges of murder while the victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem.
We really don’t know how to comment on this case as it’s good to see that a mother-in-law cared for her daughter-in-law more than her son but while doing so, she had to sacrifice the son himself.
