Whenever we think of travelling a new place, our foremost concern is accommodation. There are many websites which give us the facility of booking hotels but nowadays, people also prefer homestays where we can get a homely environment at reasonable prices.
This concept of homestays was promoted by Airbnb and it provides travelers with an amazing opportunity to make bookings almost all over the world.
However, what if we tell you that Sweden has listed the whole country on Airbnb? Sounds unbelievable but true!
“Visit Sweden” and Airbnb have collaborated together to promote the principal of “allemansrätten”, which means “freedom to roam” and it gives people the right to travel freely all across the nation.
The Swedish law protects this principal which provides travelers with the facility to stay freely in any of the public places; nevertheless, private lands and agricultural farms don’t come under it. What’s more, “do not disturb, do not destroy” rule is also applicable.
The listing states,
“It’s a home with all the necessities and amenities that any great home should have. It’s a place where you can eat berries from the ground, sleep under the stars, swim in the lakes and roam freely. Go to bed with the midnight sky above your head and if you can’t fall asleep, try counting the stars. It usually helps! In the fall there are wild mushrooms that you’ll enjoy foraging – from August to November you’ll find a lot of delicious chanterelles on the ground.”
The listing also says that check-in can be made “whenever”, 365 days with no limits on bed. There is no restriction on fishing in the five lakes and the coastline; swim in the lakes and cycle on the private roads until and unless there is a sign which reads otherwise.
Airbnb has given a statement,
“Every lake is your infinity pool, every mountaintop your granite terrace, every meadow becomes a garden and every forest a pantry filled with mushrooms and berries. Feel free to take a morning jog or bike ride across open fields or trek through challenging mountain terrain. Should you want an upgrade, you do not need to ask anyone, just find the best location that suits you and your mood.”
