The ISC results of 2017 were declared by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations on Monday afternoon and Kolkata’s Ananya Maity topped the exams with 99.5%. Other than studies, Ananya loves to play piano and do creative writing. Her father, Chinmoy Kumar, is a physician by profession and he tells this about his daughter, “She loves creative writing and reads a lot of literature.”
Last year, Ananya attended a workshop conducted at British Council, Kolkata, by Luke Kennard on creative poetry writing and this was when her love for art was noticed. Her short story entitled “Choices” was included in the “The World I Write In”, which was published by Nivasini Publishers.
Ananya is little different from other kids of her age, as she is not active on social media networks, such as Facebook. Her father told,
“She doesn’t have an account. Sometimes, she uses it by logging through our account.”
Apart from studying for a long duration for examinations, she also writes poems and stories. Principal of Heritage School, Seema Sapru, said,
“She is a very mature and well-behaved girl. She takes part in a lot of activities which involve writing. I have known her for the last nine years, and she is a good student. I am on cloud nine today. I cannot tell you how happy I am. She is a wonderful child. She’s not only brilliant in academics but also in creative writing. What’s more, she’s down to earth and well-behaved.”
This is what the topper Ananya herself said,
“I am really happy with the result. I did not expect to top the ISC.”
We wish Ananya all the luck and success for future! Keep it up (y)
