Whenever you get to hear “finger lickin’ good”, only one thing comes in your mind and that is “KFC” and today, we present you the story of Colonel Harland Sanders, the founder of KFC.
Let us give you a brief description about Colonel Sanders:
He lost his father at the age of 5; when he was 16, he dropped out of school and till he reached the age of 17, he had left 4 jobs. He did many other jobs which included railway conductor, army man, insurance agent, cook and dishwasher but failed;, his application in law school was rejected; his wife left him and he made an unsuccessful attempt of kidnapping his own daughter. His wife returned to him eventually but by the age of 65, when he retired and received a social security check of $105, he was so depressed that he wanted to commit suicide. He sat under a tree to write his will but instead wrote what he could have done more in his life.
Colonel Sanders was a very good cook, so he borrowed $87 keeping his check as a security. He bought chicken and fried it with his secret ingredients and went door to door to sell it to his neighbors in Kentucky.
Everybody liked his recipe so he decided to sell it to the world. He went to meet restaurant owners and cooked his recipe then and there only for them to taste and asked them to sell his recipe of chicken. It is said that he heard 1009 times “NO” before a restaurant owner agreed to sell his chicken. As per the deal, for every piece of chicken, Sanders used to get a nickel.
Till the year 1964, there were 600 franchisees who were selling Colonel’s chicken. He sold his organization for $2 million dollars but retained the post of spokesperson and in 1976, he was titled as the world’s second most recognizable celebrity.
The story of Colonel Sanders indeed inspires us to no end!
