Feminism has always been a hot topic of discussion in our Indian society! There have been constant changes in the society in terms of technology, but has the attitude of people towards women changed? Well, I don’t think so! The concept of ‘Sexism’ still haunts the country and if women don’t raise their voice against it, it will surely create lot of troubles for them in future.
Off late even celebrities are sharing their views about how Bollywood industry gives a superior treatment to heroes over heroines. Although not all filmmakers are the same, there are still many who just can’t get rid of this attitude. Even Priyanka Chopra had shared her experience, wherein a producer had asked for a remuneration, followed by the statement “If your remuneration doesn’t suit us, we can replace you easily”.
The recent one to have a bad encounter is the ‘Pink’ actress Taapsee Paanu, who has received a lot of appreciation for her ‘Bindaas’ character in the movie.
She talks about prevalence of ‘Sexism’ in the South Indian Film Industry and highlights the unfair treatment which she got there.
Taapsee says,
“There have been situations where actors have told me to dub lines differently because they don’t like it. Can you imagine they have asked me to change my lines in my close-up shot? So I’m saying one thing and they’re asking me to dub another line. When I refused, they made someone else dub for that one line.”
You won’t believe but even her Payments were held! Yes, Taapsee claims;
“My cheques have bounced and signed contracts have been annulled because the producer’s last film didn’t work. But he didn’t change anything in the actor’s remuneration.”
Not only Taapsee, but there are several actresses who have faced such situations in the industry. How far do you think this is correct? I strongly think that this stereotype be wiped away! Do let us know your thoughts on this in our comments section below.
