The world is moving so fast, we’re advancing to a more futuristic age of Science and Technology. New inventions are making their way into the world, we’re progressing. We have so many improved tools, gadgets, and facilities now in each and every field of our lives. We now own an I-phone (Of course some of us had to sell one of our kidneys for that), a selfie-stick, a fast internet, gaming consoles, computers, and a 500 channel Satellite provider. But I still recall the time when we didn’t have these things, when we didn’t have a 500 channel TV set, as a matter of fact there was only one channel. That one channel was Doordarshan. Back then it was considered a luxury to own a TV set, not everyone could afford that. There was just a single TV set in the whole locality, a single black and white TV set. Nowadays we got those Smart TV where you can hook up your computer or your USB driver. But back then TV sets didn’t have those advancement, no such sophisticated features. 30 years back there was just a single channel that every TV set had, a single source of entertainment for all ages, it was Doordarshan.

This is where it all started. So many wonderful memories attached with Doordarshan. Life was so COLORFUL in the BLACK & WHITE.
Doordarshan was the one channel that the kids, their parents, and their grandparents would watch together. Doordarshan used to air shows that would ultimately become some of the most entertaining and unforgettable shows that we’ve ever seen. Shows like Byomkesh Bakshi, Malgudi Days, Hum Log, Zaban Samal Ke, Udaan, Fauji (the show that gave SRK the first big break), Nukkad, Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, The Jungle Book, Shaktimaan. Back then Doordarshan was a complete everything you could ask for, it used to air a weekend movie, the news hour, the classic serials, and the ads, who could forget. You know what they say, television content is the reflection of our culture, our society, our lives.
Doordarshan advertisements were so memorable because those actors, the photography, the cinematography, the background music, the ideas, the script all blended together and created a magic. Those doordarshan ads were breath-taking, awe-inspiring, and most importantly heart touching. The Doordarshan ads from the 80’s, 90’s era were simply iconic. Those were the sweet old good days, and indeed those days are gone now. But we can always revisit the memory lane, so grab a seat on the GOOD OLD DAYS ride because we’re going for a NOSTALGIC TRIP.
